All matches of the Fifth Edition of PSL (Pakistan Super League) will take place in Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and franchise owners announced that they have come to an agreement. The PSL 5 is to take place from February to March.
Moreover, during a meeting of franchise owners and PCB, franchise owners raised concerns regarding the payments for foreign players in USD. The meeting solely arranged for hearing the concerns of owners and then giving a mutual agreement.
Paying In USD Is Impractical
Making payments to foreign players in USD will become a financial burden for franchise owners. During this meeting, setting a fixed rate for the dollar came under discussion as well. A fixed dollar exchange rate can save a lot of money. However, this could not materialize.
As all matches take place in Pakistan, payment in PKR is more practical than opting for USD. To address any other concerns of franchise owners, a committee will be set up. This committee includes one representative of each franchise and PCB officials.
Huge Losses In The First Four Editions Of The Pakistan Super League
According to Peshawar Zalmi owner, “all franchise owners support PCB in arranging all matches of PSL 5 within Pakistan. In this way, franchises will bear fewer losses and can earn more”. Franchise owners had to bare huge losses during the first four editions of PSL, as all were played in the UAE.
Afridi said “Earnings of one match of the last edition played in Karachi was 170 million rupees. So, if the Pakistan Super League 5 is arranged in Pakistan, then the revenues of PCB and franchises will increase”. He further said that they have planned to appoint independent analysts.
They also have some security briefings for convincing all the foreign players to come to Pakistan for playing PSL-5 without any concerns. In PSL-4, eight matches were held in Karachi and Lahore, including the final of PSL in 2017. With some exceptions, many overseas players visited Pakistan for these matches.
Indefinite Rights
The franchise owners also discuss the probability of having indefinite rights regarding their respective teams. As per the prevailing agreement, the contract of franchises is for ten years. And the next owner will be determined during the new bidding process.
Franchise owners have argued that all of their hard work will go in vain if contracts are not get renewed. In response to this, all their concerns were validated by PCB. Also, they would receive legal help and assistance for finding some appropriate solution.
This is a great news for all the PSL lovers and also for Pakistan’s economy. Fans can now enjoy these matches within the home country. Also, local businesses can also take advantage of the opportunity. Moreover, it will generate much needed revenue.
